Extremely fast moving silver object very high over Nottingham

Watching cricket match at Trent Bridge. Beautiful bright blue sky. Was watching a buzzard gliding around at some height above the pitch. Said to my friend, “see the buzzard?” and then “Oh, and there’s a UFO”. A silver object, the size that a large airliner would appear to be at its maximum height, was streaking across the sky directly above from my right to left. There was no way anyone would notice it unless they happened to be looking in that direction, as I was. It would have been unremarkable if it was travelling at airliner speed, but it was travelling at a speed I have never seen before. There was no contrail, no sound, and it had the appearance of a disc rather than an aeroplane. I have been around aeroplanes all my life, hold a Private Pilot’s Licence, operated a parachute school for many years and monitored aircraft throughout the day for years, but have never seen anything travel like this. If I had to put a number on the speed, I would estimate it was travelling at 5 times the speed of an airliner, i.e. thousands of miles per hour. So why no sonic boom?
I keep an open mind about UFOs but have never before seen anything remotely resembling one. It moved across the sky so fast it was only visible for perhaps 8 or 9 seconds so I wish I had picked it up a few seconds earlier. It disappeared from view because of sheer distance, whereas an airliner can be seen for a pretty long time and fades from view gradually. As I write, I feel it was probably much more than 5 times the speed of an airliner, but of course it is difficult to estimate. I have no explanation. Just telling it as it was. It could have been airliner altitude or much higher. Remarkable.
