It had been a nice day and I had made arrangements with two close friends to head out to the Peak District National Park. It was early evening by the time we arrived at our destination, so we quickly set up camp in the valley next to Burbage brook, just a few minutes from Hathersage village in the Dark Peak. This is an area I know extremely well, as I have visited the area from being a small child, and I now visit regularly to go mountain biking, Rock climing, hiking and just for pleasant day trips out. I also was involved in surveying the Topography of the surrounding valley for an A-level Geography project. So I know the area well and I am very aware of surrounding roads and access routes to where we were camped. Anyway, after eating and chatting amoung ourselves for awhile I had to use the bathroom. I walked a few metres from the camp and it was as I stood looking down the valley that my attention was drawn, to what I can only say looked like a pair of car head lights on full beam shining in the distance. A few things went through my head, ideas ranging from someone offroading in a Landrover type vehicle, people with lamps hunting vermin, or simply someone just out night walking with high power torches. So I turned and went back to camp and told the other two to take a look. When we turned to look again we were meet with three lights in the distance, about a mile away. As we watched them move along I soon realised that the route they were on was bringing them straight over the Burbage cliffs. This ruled out the lights being on any type of wheeled vehicle and at the rate these lights were traveling, it could not be people walking or running! As we discussed this my mood started to change from wonder to mild fear as the three lights seperated and one just disappeared completely, while the other two turned and headed up the valley and directly towards us. All three of us were dumb sruck and I admit to being pretty freaked out! The lights were now no more than a hundred metres away. They just seemed to float or glide silently towards us, it’s hard to estimate a speed, but I would say about forty miles per hour. To be honest I was kind of still hoping to hear someone shout “TRICKED YOU” from behind these things, what ever they were! My best description of their appearance, is very bright white, glowing orbs of light, completely silent and about a metre in width. My size estimate is very approxamate as it is hard to judge somethings size at night and when it’s shining so brightly. Adding to this is the fact that as these orbs had now got extremely close, and all three of us felt the need to dive to the ground for cover! Not the bravest of actions, but these things flew straight at us, and then over our heads at no more than a couple of metres in height! After getting up and turning round, we just saw these objects travel on up the valley and off into the night. I think we watched these orbs for about four to five minutes in total, but there again that is a rough estimate, looking at my watch wasn’t on my mind at the time. The same goes for using my phones camera to take pictures, althouth I don’t think any pictures taken of the orbs would of shown much anyway. We had no physical effects from our close encounter, apart from dirty knees and elevated heart rates. I am now a ‘believer’ in UFO’s, where ever they are from or what they are! I would be grateful to anyone who could explain our siting, until then I will keep an open mind.
