This report is as a result of a 3 year observation

About 3 years ago I was having a smoke as I could not sleep and was standing at the window idly watching the stars, when I noticed one particularly bright star flashing white, blue and then red. Then it began to move in a squiggly pattern. I rubbed my eyes and thought I was imagining it. I then went outside to make sure it was not the window distorting the light, but had the same result – every little while the star would move about. Then I saw what can be described as a blue electric aura surround the ‘star’ and retract in towards it. This was followed by small yellow/golden orbs racing from it, and towards it. I set my alarm for the following nights and observed the same thing except for the aura.
One night my wife was up late doing admin work, and I called her outside to tell me what she saw without influencing her in any way. She was astounded and confirmed the ‘star’ was moving around!
My first reaction to this sort of thing is to look for logical explanations. I am aware that stars appear to move when low on the horizon, but this one was about 50 degrees up and the surrounding stars all remained static except this one.
To further compound this matter, one night I went out to observe the ‘star’ and it was not there! The sky was absolutely clear, and there were no high altitude clouds at all, so it could not have been obscured, and anyway, even when there are clouds its brightness is such that it often shines right through them.
I then began to observe the entire sky that I was able to, and found to my astonishment no less than 6 of these ‘stars’ – all about the same size and intensity. Then came the wierdest realisation of all – it appears that they are spaced at about 50 to 80 kilometers apart IN A GRID PATTERN!
As time has gone by, I have noted that all 6 have disappeared at various times, and then reappeared some days or weeks later.
I admit that I have not been as scientific about it as I would have liked to be ie plotting their apparent positions on a map etc. but this is because my time is extremely limited and I don’t get to be up at that time so much.
I can’t say when they appear, or if and when they disappear chronologically as I have not maintained a continuous vigil on them.
I would be most interested to know if others have noticed this most interesting phenomenon and if they have any further thoughts on the matter.
I have no hypothesis on this as yet because I am not yet convinced beyond a shadow of doubt that what I am seeing is real ufo phenomenon, but if it turns out to be so, it gives me a most ominous feeling, and makes me wonder about motives, whether we are being observed/monitored, and even the word ‘control’ comes to mind. But let me not speculate further.
