Pulsing and morphing orb over Pensacola, FL 10/09/2012
Driving my kids home after dinner with my parents at their home. I was traveling south on Pine Forest Road approaching Interstate 10 and it was near total darkness following dusk. First spotted the object about 20 degrees above the horizon to the southeast. What initially struck my interest in the object was the color and variation in intensity. My first thought was that it could have been the space station but I quickly dismissed this since it was traveling from southeast over my head to the northwest. I pulled onto the side of the road and observed the object with my children. As the object neared, it appeared to have a “corona” around it almost as if it were on fire. It moved too slowly to be a meteor, to quickly for a hot air balloon, and was most certainly NOT an airplane or helicopter. It also had a persistent zig zag in it’s motion while maintaining it’s general heading to the northwest. The object went nearly directly overhead and at this point there was persistent red spot on underside while the yellow-orange glow surrounded it. Once the object was 10-15 degrees past me from overhead to the northwest, it briefly disappeared completely only to reappear a few seconds later and disappear permanently a few seconds after that.
